This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Yaw Works LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information in connection with the Obsolete Lab mobile application and obsoletelab.net (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information described here. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given to them in our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Account and profile information. Every Service account begins anonymous — no registration is required to use core features. We assign your device an anonymous account identifier, to which the following is tied: the tools and services you tell us you use and what you pay for them, the goals and use cases you select, the wishes you save, and any first name or nickname you provide.

1.2 Information from optional sign-in. If you choose to link your account to Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or email/password authentication, we collect the email address, and display name if made available, that the chosen provider furnishes to us. This step is entirely optional and exists solely to preserve your data across devices and reinstallations.

1.3 Purchase and subscription information. If you purchase a subscription, we receive confirmation of the transaction and your subscription status from Apple's App Store, Google Play, and our subscription-management processor, RevenueCat. We do not collect, transmit, process, or store your payment card number, bank details, or other financial account information; that information is collected and processed entirely by Apple or Google.

1.4 Correspondence. If you contact us directly or subscribe to our email newsletter, we collect the email address and any content of the message or submission you provide.

1.5 Automatically collected information. We automatically collect standard usage data (screens viewed, features used, session frequency) and diagnostic data (crash reports, performance metrics) through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. On supported platforms, we collect and store a device push-notification token to deliver notifications you have enabled.

2. How we use information

2.1 To operate the Service. Information described in Section 1 is used to compute your personalized obsolescence score, generate and rank recommendations, and determine the content of your daily briefing, Loop feed, and alerts.

2.2 To personalize audio content. If you provide a first name or nickname, it is transmitted to our text-to-speech provider each time a personalized greeting is synthesized for your daily briefing. This is the only circumstance in which that specific data element is transmitted outside our own systems.

2.3 To communicate with you. We use your email address, where provided and consented to, to send transactional messages, a weekly digest, and, if you have subscribed, our newsletter.

2.4 To improve and secure the Service. We use automatically collected information to diagnose technical issues, understand feature usage, and protect against fraud and misuse.

2.5 We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers for their own marketing purposes, under any circumstances.

3. How information is shared

3.1 We disclose information only to the service providers necessary to operate the Service, each acting under its own privacy and security obligations, as follows: Firebase and Google Cloud Platform (Google LLC) — hosting, authentication, database, and analytics infrastructure. Anthropic PBC — processes aggregated news content and your stated interests and goals to generate briefing scripts and recommendations; does not receive your account identifiers or contact information. ElevenLabs Inc. — converts briefing scripts, and any nickname you provide, into synthesized audio. RevenueCat, Inc. — manages subscription and entitlement state. Apple Inc. and Google LLC — process all payment transactions directly as merchants of record. Resend, Inc. — delivers transactional and newsletter email on our behalf.

3.2 We may disclose information where required to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy continuing to govern any information so transferred.

3.3 We do not knowingly permit any third party described in Section 3.1 to use information obtained from us for their own independent marketing purposes.

4. Data retention

4.1 We retain account information for as long as your account remains active. Upon account deletion, all associated data — including your tools, goals, wishes, briefing history, nickname, and device tokens — is permanently deleted from our production systems, typically within a commercially reasonable period not exceeding thirty (30) days to account for backup rotation.

4.2 Newsletter subscriptions and correspondence are retained separately until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

5. Your rights and choices

5.1 Account deletion. You may permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time within the app (Settings → Delete account). You may alternatively submit a deletion request to privacy@obsoletelab.net.

5.2 Access. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you by contacting privacy@obsoletelab.net.

5.3 Notification and communication preferences. Each notification category may be independently disabled in Settings → Notifications. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe mechanism. Revoking notification permission at the operating-system level immediately halts delivery regardless of any preference stored on our servers.

5.4 Residents of certain U.S. states (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Virginia) may have additional statutory rights regarding their personal information, including the right to know, delete, and correct information we hold, and to opt out of certain processing. We honor such requests submitted to privacy@obsoletelab.net, subject to identity verification.

6. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure, including encryption of data in transit and access controls consistent with Google Cloud Platform's infrastructure security standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. International data transfer

Our infrastructure is located and operated in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, a jurisdiction whose data protection laws may differ from those of your country of residence.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, individuals under the age of thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen (13). If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly. A parent or guardian who believes we have collected information from a child under thirteen (13) should contact privacy@obsoletelab.net.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may amend this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the date of the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service following any such change constitutes acceptance of the amended Policy. Material changes will be accompanied by reasonable notice within the app where practicable.
